Alphabet's post-earnings plunge splits influencers; memory bulls hold

Alphabet fell about 13% in one session after earnings, splitting influencers who had called it cheap. Memory names stayed the most one-sided bullish trade, while Intel dropped about 29% on Friday.

  • 287 calls
  • 28 influencers
  • 94 stocks

Alphabet was the week's main story. The stock fell about 13% in a single session after its earnings, from 324.89 on Oct 28 to 283.82 on Oct 29, and finished the week about 13% lower. Many influencers had called it cheap before the report, and afterwards they split over whether the drop was a bargain or deserved. Memory stayed the most one-sided trade: SK hynix drew 11 bullish calls and no bearish ones and ended the week about 11% higher. Intel's fall of about 29% on Friday and a broad slide that day (QQQ was down about 3.5%) set the tone for another busy earnings week.

Alphabet: cheap before the report, divided after it

Most voices were bullish going into the results:

  • 投资TALK君 put GOOGL at a PEG ratio of about 1 and called it cheap ↗.
  • 美股仙人 urged followers to buy, saying they would thank him the next day ↗, and that any big tech stock at a PEG of 1 is a no-brainer ↗.
  • NaNa说美股 said she wasn't worried about the results, doubted a post-earnings drop would reach 272, and would treat any dip as a chance to buy ↗.
  • Joseph Hogue saw about $400 within a year, as long as the AI theme holds ↗.

After the drop, several of the same voices turned bearish. 美股仙人 said the fall was deserved: search ads looked beyond saving, EPS fell, and capex below expectations read like a negative for the AI story ↗. He said his view had changed and he would sell into a rebound ↗. By Friday he said the fundamentals really had worsened and it was too early to buy the dip ↗. NaNa说美股 cited slowing search ads and free cash flow turning negative, and expected 270 soon ↗. 牛顿师兄 argued that if Alphabet and Meta kept weakening, money could rotate out of the megacaps into semiconductors ↗.

The long-term buyers held their ground:

  • Everything Money estimated about a 15.5% return at the current price under its middle assumptions ↗.
  • 贝拉聊财金 said the core assets are intact and investors should look at normalised profit, not figures distorted by investment gains ↗.
  • 老汤美股财经 said the ad business can still be fixed and compared the valuation to Microsoft's earlier this year ↗.
  • NaNa说美股 herself suggested a starter position around 280, adding at 270 and 250 ↗. 老李玩钱 plans to add below 272 ↗.
  • Shepherd Capital Markets called it a good company at a better valuation, though the free-cash-flow story may keep it volatile ↗. 视野环球财经 will give it one quarter ↗.

Microsoft held steady, Amazon split opinion

MSFT ended the week about 0.5% lower, and most influencers saw it as a relief. 视野环球财经 called it relatively safe after earnings, with the chart intact above 490 ↗. 阳光财经 said the report at least removed a risk ↗. 美股仙人 called it the only light on a dark day ↗. 投资TALK君 saw 25 times earnings as low ↗ and hopes it returns to its three-year norm of about 30 times ↗. Two disagreed. 老李玩钱 said it is pricier than its megacap peers and should not be chased ↗. 老汤美股财经 cut its target weight by 2 points to make room for Alphabet and SpaceX ↗.

AMZN fell about 3% for the week, and about 6% from Wednesday's close.

  • Before its report, Joseph Hogue was bearish for the short term: he expected cash flow to sink further into the red and called analysts too bullish ↗.
  • NaNa说美股 expected a slide to the July low around 225–226 ↗. 投资TALK君 is cutting his big tech target weight from 10% to 5% and trimming Amazon ↗. Art of Speculation flagged a rising wedge on the monthly chart ↗.
  • On the bullish side, 精英财经 LABanker named 185–195 as a re-entry zone ↗. 视野环球财经 said it had reached strong technical support ↗. 老李玩钱 expects it to recover over time ↗.

Memory: the most one-sided trade

000660.KS (SK hynix) climbed about 19% from last week's close to its Oct 29 peak, then gave some back to finish about 11% higher. Nobody tracked was bearish:

  • 美股仙人 was very bullish ahead of its Tuesday after-close report ↗. He dismissed worries about Chinese HBM rivals, arguing that AI memory demand is "not a cycle" ↗.
  • Serenity cited operating margins of 80%, enforceable demand commitments and shareholder returns ↗. She also said Chinese cloud providers are negotiating long-term memory contracts, some running to 2035 ↗.
  • Ruby投资笔记 said the valuation has not caught up with the results ↗. 牛顿师兄 called it very cheap ↗. 财经观察站 plans to keep adding ↗.

MU ran about 12% to 983.23 by Wednesday, then gave it all back to finish about 1% higher. 美股仙人 said Micron is cheap "even at 1200" ↗. He also noted that Bank of America had raised its target ↗. 阳光财经 said it is hard to make money in Micron now but also hard for it to fall far, with capacity fully booked ↗. 老李玩钱 called it his top memory pick and named 820–900 as an entry range ↗. XTrader猫姐美股 was the exception, saying she would stay away for now after the sharp drop ↗. On other memory names, 硅谷居士 noted that SanDisk trades at a P/E of 11 and is down 52% from its peak ↗. NaNa说美股 called Seagate not the best way to bet on storage ↗. 阳光财经 said Seagate and Western Digital had reached long-term support ↗.

Intel's collapse and the chip sell-off

INTC fell about 29% on Friday and about 24% for the week. Jukan called the results "absolute dogshit" ↗. NaNa说美股 said a drop like this reflects a fundamental problem, not just sentiment, and saw a possible drift to 55 ↗. XTrader猫姐美股 said 62 must hold, or the next major support is 50 ↗. 老李玩钱 ranks it low among chip names ↗. Some still saw value. 投资TALK君 was tempted at about 70 because the earlier gap had been filled, but said his target weighting may not allow it ↗. 精英财经 LABanker expects a rebound ↗.

The selling spread to other chips on Friday: AMD fell about 11% and NVDA about 4%. Art of Speculation said Nvidia's weekly chart broke a large rising wedge ↗, while 老李玩钱 called its current price a reasonable entry ↗. 视野环球财经 warned against rushing into leveraged semiconductor ETFs, likening it to picking up money in front of a steamroller ↗.

Neoclouds and optics: buying the fear vs. debt worries

NBIS jumped to 182.34 on Wednesday, then gave it back to end about 3% lower for the week.

  • Fiona has been buying, citing low leverage, conservative depreciation and customer prepayments that fund over half of its investment ↗.
  • 美股仙人 expected the panic to last no more than a week ↗. Invest with Henry is very bullish despite the heavy borrowing ↗.
  • On the bearish side, NaNa说美股 sees 120–135 as the final target of this pullback ↗. Joseph Hogue called it a weak link in the AI theme ↗.

On CRWV, ZipTrader saw "a financing scare, not a demand scare" ↗. 刘翔的投资频道 said debt markets have shut its funding channel ↗. In optics, Serenity described a laser bottleneck that could set off allocation fights and price rises for COHR and LITE ↗. She also said Marvell was in the final stages of a deal to buy Lumentum ↗.

The Nasdaq after Friday's slide

QQQ ended the week about 2% lower, with most of the drop on Friday.
